Jesus Walks On Water

I. THE DISCIPLES GO ON AHEAD OF JESUS

From John and Matthew’s account we see two very important things:

1. Jesus was testing the disciples faith and __________ again when He told them to go on ahead without Him.

2. It was a _______ for Jesus to spend time alone with His Father in prayer.   Hebrews 5:7

II. THE DISCIPLES IN THE STORM

When a strong wind begins blowing on the Sea of Galilee it means nothing but trouble and even _______ for sailors.

If Jesus told them to go on ahead would He ____ see them through the _______?

The feeding of the multitude was the lesson, but the _______ was the examination after the lesson.

Because __________ is combined with infinite wisdom and love, we may be certain that our Lord not only does everything in the right way, but also at the best _____.

III. THE DISCIPLES SEE JESUS WALKING ON WATER

Notice that the disciples did not give up in _______ but kept rowing.

Even though it was _____ Jesus saw them. No amount of darkness can _____ us from the Lord.

The truth is the disciples were not expecting _________. They had already _________ the display of Divine grace and power which they had just witnessed when Jesus fed the multitude.

So quickly do we _______ the Lord’s mercies of deliverance in the past? So little do we expect Him to answer our prayers of the present?

IV. THE DISCIPLES RECEIVE JESUS INTO THE BOAT

The _________ of heart of these disciples did not quench their Lord’s love for them.

From beginning to end our Lord deals with us in wondrous, matchless, sovereign ______.

Our fears can only be dispelled by looking in _____ to and having our hearts _______ with Jesus.

Only when the Spirit reveals Jesus to the heart of a sinner through the new birth does he become _______ to receive Him into his heart.

V. THE CROWD SEEKS JESUS

The multitude, whose hearts were set on making the Miracle-worker their “_____,” apparently gathered early in the morning to carryout their plan.

The One who had miraculously ____ the multitude had miraculously __________ Himself across the sea.

They came seeking Jesus and they found Him. Or more accurately they came seeking and Jesus _______ Himself to be found.

VI. JESUS REBUKES THE CROWD

Jesus read the hearts of the people and knew their _______ and He reads our ______ and knows our motives.

Jesus knew that the bread they were seeking was _______, and not spiritual, _______ and not eternal.

They were not seeking Jesus because of the signs that proved He was God incarnate, the _______ of Israel, but because they wanted their bellies ______ again.

Had they understood who this Miracle-worker was they would have fallen prostrate before Him in _______. They would have acknowledged Him as the Messiah and the _______ of sinners by confessing and forsaking their sin and asking Him for forgiveness and cleansing.

Their fathers had eaten of the bread (the manna) in the wilderness, and they _____. Jesus is the bread of ____ which comes down from heaven so that one may eat of it and not die.

Do you this morning seek the bread this ______ has to offer you or do you seek the bread that is from _______, the bread of life Jesus Christ?
