John 12:12-19
JOHN 12:12-19
The Triumphal Entry

By His triumphal entry into Jerusalem Jesus shows that He is ready to give up His _____ unto _______.

In fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9, Jesus clearly claims to be the Messiah, the _______ King of those who by faith put their trust in Him and make up the true _______ of God.

I. JESUS HAILED KING BY THE MULTITUDE 12:12-13

As Jesus approached the city of Jerusalem the people waved palm branches as a gesture of _______, rejoicing and triumph for the one whom they wanted to be _____ of Israel.

With Jesus, deliverance from Roman _______ seemed assured; for if this Jesus was able to raise from the dead a man who had been in the tomb four days, where were the limits to His _______?

Little did the people understand that Jesus was a spiritual King who, through His substitutionary death on the cross, would set free from the bondage of ____ all those that the _______ had given Him.

Jesus is King over spiritual Israel, the _______, comprised of all (Jew or Gentile) who by faith have put their trust in Him as Savior from sin and _________ over their life.

II. JESUS FULFILLS ZECHARIAHS PROPHECY 12:14-15

In that Jesus never traveled by horse or donkey but _______ every where he went, the people of Jerusalem, if they knew their scripture, should have understood Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem (the city of Zion) on a _______ as a fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9.

Though the Jews were not going to be emancipated by Jesus from the bondage of Rome, they would have nothing to _____ if they would but put their ______ in Him as their Savior/Messiah. Luke 12:5

Jesus didn’t come as a conquering King but as a _________ King to bring _______ between man and God His Father through His sacrificial death for all who will believe in Him as their Messiah/Savior.

Jesus enters Jerusalem on a young donkey that is commonly associated with the pursuits of peace and not a _______ which is associated with _______.

III. JESUS NOT UNDERSTOOD BY HIS DISCIPLES 12:16

Due to ignorance of the Scriptures and little ______ even the Twelve did not immediately understand (ginōskō – they did not know or perceive) that Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a young donkey was the fulfillment of the _______ in Zechariah 9:9.

In Luke 24:25 Jesus said to His disciples, How _______ you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the _______ have spoken!

Not until Jesus was ________ (risen from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father) did the disciples see the connection between “these things” that had been written (graphō – to write or to describe) by the _______ and “these things” which they themselves on that day had done for Jesus.

It was only by the promised aid of the ___________  that the disciples eventually __________ the significance of Jesus’ triumphal entry. John 14:26, John 16:13

IV.  JESUS ATTRACTS A CROWD BECAUSE OF HIS LATEST MIRACLE 12:17-18

Those who had been with Jesus when He raised Lazarus from the dead kept on ________ to the others what had happened, “that Lazarus had been dead for four days, and that Jesus called Him out of the tomb, He came and is ______ this very day.”

We too are to go out and ______ to others of the miracle or wonder that Jesus has performed in our lives. We too have been raised from ______ unto life!!

V. JESUS CONTINUES TO DRAW DISCIPLES AFTER HIM 12:19

The Pharisees were not succeeding in _______ other Jews from following Jesus. Something has to be done, and done quickly, or soon the whole _______ (literally more and more Jews and even Gentiles) would follow this Jesus.

The word “world” here (kosmos) cannot mean ________ without exception, for we know from Jesus teaching in Matthew 7:14 that few are they who travel the narrow road that leads to life and many are they who travel the broad road that leads to destruction.
