Introduction Continued
INTRODUCTION TO THE GOSPEL OF JOHN (Part 2)
  • Each of the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John) has a prominent and dominant                          which is                              to itself.
  • Matthew’s Gospel portrays the Lord Jesus as the Son of                    , the Heir of Israel’s throne, the King of the             ; and everything in his Gospel is contributes to this central theme.
  • In Mark, Christ is seen as the                    of Jehovah (of Yahweh), the perfect                            of God; and everything in this second Gospel brings out the characteristics of His service and the manner in which He served.
  •  Luke highlights the                          of the Savior, and presents Him as                           Man, contrasting Him from the                       sons of men.
  •  The theme of John’s Gospel is the                      of the Savior. Here, as nowhere else in the Bible is the                         of Christ so clearly presented to our view.
  • Without question the Gospel according to John is one of the most amazing books                written. The                            of any who study this book should be “put off your shoes from off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.”
  • The Gospel of John tells us of Jew named Jesus, who claimed that he was the Rightful Creator and Owner of                things, the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Living Water, the Good Shepherd who would give His life for His sheep, the One who would raise the dead at the last day, the very                          , the only Way to heaven.
  • To “the Jesus of history” John gives the most exalted titles. He calls Him the               of God, and tells us that this Word had been “with God” from all                        , dwelling in the immediate presence of the Godhead.
  • For John, ____________is nothing less than He claims to be. He is God incarnate! He is the creator of all physical life and the creator of all spiritual life giving life to                         He pleases.
  • In answer to the question, “who is                    ,” C.S. Lewis said you are left with only three alternatives:
    1) Jesus was a                      , he knew that his claims were false and made a deliberate misrepresentation;
    2) Jesus was a                         , He did not know that his claims were false and he was sincerely deluded.
    3) He was who He claimed to be,                                                who took on the form of a man, Lord of Lords and King of Kings, the only Savior for sinners.
  • C.S. Lewis concluded by stating the following:
    • If Jesus was a Liar, he would be the                           man to have ever lived to die such a horrible death for something He knew not to be true.
    • If He was a Lunatic, how can you explain a lunatic performing such super natural wonders and                          and teach with such authority and                                  ? T
    • The only answer that makes any sense, in light of His teaching, miracles, and                         life is that He is who he claimed to be, God come in the flesh.
  • Experiencing God’s pardon, purpose, peace, and power in your life requires                commitment to Jesus Christ. There is a throne in your life, and either Christ is on that throne or you are on it. If you say, “I am the master of my life; I will do as I please,” you                      claim to be a Christian. 1 John 2:3-6
  • To believe is not merely to give intellectual assent to the claims of Christ, it is to                                  surrender your life to Him and do what He says. It is submitting to Christ as the                  and Master of your life.Luke 6:46
  • Commitment to Christ involves the surrender of the intellect, the emotions, and the will – the                       person.
  • The surrender of the                and                         what Jesus says is the key to knowing that you have truly been born again and it is the only way of experiencing a victorious Christian life that pleases God
